about us

The Purpose Behind Your Project

Studio St. Germain is a progressive, award-winning architecture firm specializing in human-centric design—architecture that puts people at its heart. Our philosophy is driven by the purpose beyond our profession: improving lives through design. What is the purpose behind the project that drives you?

We adhere to a humanistic approach where community values are integral to the design process — and reflect our core belief: building to give back. Guided by our passion for architecture that allows people to thrive, our experienced design team views every project as an opportunity to reimagine the nexus of sustainability and aesthetics.

Studio St. Germain has appeared in NextPittsburgh, Public Source, Quartz, Pittsburgh Magazine, Shady Ave. Magazine, Breaking Ground, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, and the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Nathan St. Germain has been a featured panelist at the Sustainable Business Breakfast (produced by Earth Day Pittsburgh) and has been a guest on various podcasts, including The Green Voice, AIA Storylines, and the Passive House Accelerator.

In 2021, our Sewickley Tavern project won a Certificate of Merit from the AIA Design Pittsburgh Awards for its responsible design, its elegant style, and its performance-based metrics. In 2023, the Master Builders Association named 400 Beaver as a finalist for its annual Building Excellence Awards program. In 2025 the Wilkinsburg Passive House became the first single-family residence in Pennsylvania to earn a Passive House EnerPHit certification.

Studio St. Germain supports the community through volunteer service for several committees and organizations. Nathan St. Germain co-founded Passive House Western Pennsylvania, is the former Chairman of the Sewickley Borough Planning Commission, and has been an invited contributor to the City of Pittsburgh Climate Action Plan and the Rockefeller 100 Resilient Cities Program.

Nothing impacts our bodies and minds more than the built environment that surrounds us, and a high-performance building prioritizes the well-being and comfort of its inhabitants.
